Web Marketing
A Beginners Guide to Web2.0 and ERP
Its widely acknowledged that most Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) applications are not flexible enough to keep pace with the businesses they support. Today’s applications force users to figure out how to map isolated pools of information and functions to their tasks and processes. And they force IT professionals to spend too much of their budget to keep up with evolving business models and requirements.
Increasingly, software vendors and businesses are bringing Web 2.0 capabilities from the consumer realm to ERP to address these end user and IT challenges. The idea of bringing familiar Web 2.0 capabilities into the business world was first discussed in the spring of 2006 when Harvard Professor Andrew McAffee coined the term “Enterprise 2.0” to describe this phenomenon. Since then, software vendors have been working to make this idea a reality by incorporating a range of Web 2.0 technologies such as enterprise search, Web-based collaboration, mashups and other concepts into business applications to improve efficiency, effectiveness and productivity. Unlike the consumer realm, businesses must control who sees critical business information. Therefore software vendors have been infusing these technologies with the security and management features found in traditional software applications.
While many business users are familiar with these technologies through personal use, they remain uncertain as to how these technologies can provide strategic benefits to their business.The value of Web 2.0 technologies is that they bring capabilities to business users that were not possible previously. These include:
- enabling users to securely access structured and unstructured information across the enterprise in a single search;
- enhancing collaboration both internally and with partners, suppliers and customers;
- boosting the usability of business applications;
- improving the ability to customize and integrate applications;
The strategic value of these capabilities depends on the organization’s business strategy. For example, some organization will want to enhance customer service by empowering employees with the information they need to better address customer questions. Others will wish to bring new products to market faster by improving collaboration between the enterprise and its suppliers, customers and partners. And others will have different objectives.
Enterprise Search Makes Information Easier to Find
Information is of no use if it can’t be found. Yet today, it is difficult for business users to find the information they need. One reason is that different types of information—structured and unstructured text information—are stored in numerous siloed systems, including databases, content management systems, email archives and so on. Users need to know in advance where this information is located.In contrast, consumer users have become adept at instantly retrieving highly relevant content on the Web using Google™-type search capabilities.
Web 2.0 makes enterprise information more easily discoverable in a number of ways. It enables users to search for all types of data in a single search; it improves the relevance of results through a Google-inspired link structure and allows content categorization to arise organically through tag clouds; it augments returned search results with additional data, as well as updates users about new content automatically through real-simple syndication (RSS). At the same time, role-based security limits data access to authorized users.
Enhancing Collaboration
Organizations are increasingly looking to improve collaboration both internally and externally with customers, suppliers, and partners. Many organizations are adopting virtual workforces to address younger workers’ demands to work from home to improve flexibility and work/life balance. Other organizations are establishing virtual collaborative teams across the globe at the intra-corporate level to take advantage of extended enterprise models and outsourcing/offshoring.
However, today’s communication channels impede collaboration by making it difficult to locate colleagues in real time. In addition, users are unable to find knowledge generated during this collaboration for later reuse. While email makes it easier to get in touch with people, exchanging emails with co-workers can be inefficient. Emails also create multiple copies of messages or different versions of documents. And email systems provide no centralized place to search for a message or attachment. Instant Messaging (IM)/Chat makes it easy to discover who is available for collaboration at any given time and provides the technology to do so in real time, but it does not save the results of interactions. As a result, others in the organization do not benefit from the knowledge transferred.
Presence technology breaks down barriers to global collaboration. Presence allows users to see who else is available for collaboration right from their business applications. It includes technologies such as Instant Messaging for carrying out the collaboration. And it can keep records of the interaction, either by saving the contents of an IM conversation or a recording of a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) conversation. As a result, interactions become highly leverageable since day-to-day interaction by users leaves behind discoverable information that reflect the ideas and work conducted within business processes.
For example, a user can see that an engineer is online and IM them to ask a question about a technical issue a customer is having with the company’s product. When the engineer replies, the response is recorded and becomes searchable using enterprise search tools so other employees with the same question can instantly find the answer.
The following are just a few examples of how companies can benefit from
improved collaboration:
- One major packaged goods vendor uses collaborative tools to connect employees to each other and to outsiders to bring smart new products to market faster.
- Software users can share tips and tricks.
- Developers can brainstorm ideas for the next release and ask customers to rate the priority or contribute enhancement suggestions
- In a large global organization, project team members around the world can share information, files and ideas without meeting face-to-face in a
conference room. - Companies can support ad hoc processes and problem solving. While prescribed policies and procedures will always have a place, workers on the ground often need to make on-the-spot decisions and develop their own solutions as problems occur. Collaborative environments can give workers access to the right information and talent to solve their problems.
Ease of Use Extends the Reach of Enterprise Applications
Business applications are typically much more difficult to use then their consumer Web 2.0 counterparts. That difficulty comes at a price. In addition, many enterprises wish to open their business applications to partners, suppliers, and customers to enable the extended enterprise. However, organizations are unable to benefit from doing so if applications are too difficult to use without training.
As technologists build Web 2.0 capabilities, they’re making sure their offerings are easy to use. With Web 2.0 tools, users can author, link, tag and so on with a Web browser, a few clicks and some typing without the need for HTML skills. Because these tools are so easy to use, people inside and outside the organization can use them without special training. As a result, people inside the organization become more efficient and productive while businesses can better open up their organizations’ business systems via the extended enterprise to partners, suppliers, and customers to streamline supply and demand chain operations.
Benefits of Incorporating Web 2.0 into Enterprise Applications
By bringing Web 2.0 capabilities to enterprise applications, companies can improve productivity and collaboration while lowering IT costs.
- Improved efficiency and productivity – Using Web 2.0 technologies in business gives the enterprise the best of both worlds. Business users accustomed to traditional business applications can continue to use their existing applications. Those who grew up with the consumer web and social computing can use their accustomed interfaces. As a result, users gain the flexibility to work with business systems and information in the manner that makes them most productive. Better search capabilities enable users to find information they are authorized to access far more quickly and intuitively. Mashups improve both IT and end user productivity by allowing business users to build just the right applications to address business requirements faster and more easily.
- Harness knowledge through collaboration – Better collaboration empowers the business and extended enterprise to better harness information to more effectively solve business problems and improve productivity.
- Reduce costs – Organizations lower costs through the ability to maintain and administer applications on Web and Application servers, which end users access via the Web, rather than having to maintain and administer large numbers of individual desktop systems.

Turn your company’s website in a vibrant and dynamic space
One thing that many companies do not take into account when hiring the creation of their website is that the image of our company in the Internet can not be static. Our business changes, you update the catalog of products and services we offer and this should be reflected on the web.
Because we can not allow patrons think we have the website as something decorative that we have because we have to be on the Internet. At the end of the day will be they who will see if we have improved somewhat, we have renewed our offerings, and so on. A new arriving customer does not appreciate the difference. So when hiring our website keep in mind that we have to go regularly introducing new features in it.
Regular updates are also one of the issues considered in the search engines when positioning the page. If we have a page created for us by a web designer and need your help to generate new content would have to request a maintenance budget and annual renewal.
Another interesting alternative would be to attach a blog to our website . This way we can edit and create new content to provide something of interest to clients of our company. Tips, tricks, and more. that help strengthen the bond of trust between company and client.
Move the image of your internet business
The vast majority of companies that want to start their journey on the web are often unaware of this medium. They have few references to the Internet, Google knows Hotmail or page through which to access their email and little else. At one point they decide to jump into the web and they are looking to translate their corporate image to this new environment, but need to know this before the language of the web.
And we are talking about a different medium to which they are accustomed to work. For example, a mistake, in my opinion, these can often make is trying to bring the web design they have when they make an ad in a triptych. The language is different, with flyers or brochures are looking to hit the person who receives at least take a look, with the web looking for something more.
If we are seeking to reflect our corporate image on the web we should try to find a solution between web design and communication . We are seeking a web design functional, not aesthetic criteria prime over others, allowing our customers to have a clear idea about our business. We know the language of the web to adapt our message.
We must also compensate for web standards and focus on the type of client we are looking for. Do we want to provide more information to our customers or seek to attract new customers? We seek to attract the attention of new customers but once captured, we must provide quality content when creating our website .
This makes it very difficult to have a good website. It is a mixture of elements as diverse and often conflicting, which makes it hard to find the proper key. Managing the language of the website will help us understand how the world moves through the network and thus tailor our corporate message to not alienate customers who come to it.
Not everything is design, content is increasingly important
Many companies once they make the decision to create a web page are real problems in explaining the activity of your business what he does, and so on. The problem is compounded when it comes time to put it on paper or used to support a brochure, a leaflet, which are not designed for the web. Many are discouraged at this stage, but we must move forward and adapt our message to the language of the web. It is true that there are many concepts that require attention: keywords, sell your company to someone who does not know you, pictures, logo, color palette for the web… All these issues require decisions by companies and designers.
In many cases too much information overwhelms them. So once again determined to create the website your company is best to have clear ideas and set some goals. After an initial meeting with the web designer in which we clarify the concepts, we will gather all the information. And this process is key to our website convey the right message and stand out from the others by the content. We have a great presentation, but once past that point if the content does not satisfy our users leave the website.
It is said that no one knows your business better than you. And it’s true. Another question is that the employer knows to communicate this knowledge to their clients . And even in the creation of a website . Is not the same direct relationship to traditional business customer to develop information for a website where information and technical resources is perceived differently than traditional media. This is where designer and entrepreneur must set goals, to provide an appropriate content about your business, and the designer to advise on the best way to transmit it in half as competitive and changing as the Internet.
Article marketing and content
RSS (Real Simple Syndication) is the great … Buzz around the Internet these days due to its powerful ability to syndicate content effortlessly and instantly across the Internet to any website I subscribers who have subscribed to the RSS Feed particular, with 100% guaranteed delivery.
What other online technologies can guarantee that?
Email? I do not think so.
RSS is … Period!
And what crazy is, everyone who publishes content on your website regularly is quickly adapting because of the many benefits of RSS, because lets face it, updating content manually on any web site is a task time-consuming, especially when you do it in one day in and day out basis. Due to the volume of traffic from search engines for online businesses, there is a whole industry dedicated to improving Web site visibility in search engines: Search Engine Marketing (SEM).
SEM is a complex issue that focuses on optimizing the “Search engine (SEO), but also includes the use of paid advertising and contextual ads to reach a Web site articles or product pages the first page of results for a given search.
Not all agree with this definition, but what counts is what you can do. The collection of concepts we can put in a very sueve pillow.
In essence, there are two ways to define SEM:
1 .- Or is the organic search results SEO, and results in the column of payment notices.
2 .- Or that only includes paid advertising and is independent of SEO.
Organizations such as Forrester Research and the Search Engine Marketing Professionals Organization believe that SEM is a general term that encompasses both SEO and paid search. For the purposes of this article, I am using this definition.

Google Analytics statistics are a good way to test the key words we use, then we will see is that visitors come from Google, and if they stay or flee.
6 .- The links pointing to our Web sites are still the king: Web sites that do not have good content and not standards compliant HTML for search engines, can be an excellent result SEM if you have enough inbound links (with anchor text) that point to the site.

Some important steps to build a website
Are you thinking in hosting its own Web site? Before taking the step to pause and do their homework. As easy as it sounds, with a Web site that generates business will be possible only if it already has examined the following major issues.
Any company must have essentially a goal or an order. What is the main objective of its Web site of a sale or information? Who is your target audience? Who will be the people who visit its Web site? Who is going to be the most of its visitors?
Once they arrive to the answers to these questions you can then decide on the subject of its Web site. Your choice of the item can be made easier by jotting down a list of things that are well versed in or are concerned about. Then, some research will tell you if your item is of high demand. After having done all this that you need, either to develop a product or service that fits the theme of his site or find a product or service to sell that fits into the item on its website.
Then, does it have to decide on what type of material on its web site could provide to comply with its objectives and attract its target audience? You could offer some kind of free or a type of exclusion contained in the list for marketing purposes, an e-book or even a special report. The idea is to obtain the e-mail addresses of its visitors that little by little become its “market hot” of the people that you can market their bids to, from time to time.
To make operating its Web site that you need a domain name? Your domain name must be registered in his name or the name of your company. Once that everything that is reaching a search for accommodation businesses which will be the headquarters of its Web site. If it takes seriously about your company must become a host paid. Many customers perceive free Web space to little and if it is committed to a good business why tarnish its image, in the first place?
Your page design should be easy to use and the incorporation of a search form on each page can be a useful tool of navigation for visitors who know exactly what you want find. A word of caution should be mentioned however on the use of latest technologies. If you are using the latest technologies in the first page of its Web site is then automatically excluded those users who cannot or do not want update their systems.
If warn of plug-ins and special requirements from the principle that give them the option to decide if it is worth to lower your site. As regards to the election of the browser in question is that it would be advisable to check the aspect of its Internet software. It would be foolish assume that their users to change their preferred browser of choice. On the other hand, if the design of its Web site for a 1024 x 768 resolution of the screen, while its users have monitors with screen resolutions smaller will have to move to see its Web site in its entirety. Therefore, the best choice for you would be to check your site in the largest number of screen resolutions that you can have access. You can go a step further to make some research on most commonly used screen sizes.
Having taken both problems, do you not like promote your site? Later, free to write articles for the reprinted in several Web sites, buy advertising in several Web sites, the commercial links with other web sites and its web site may soon become the most widely spoken in circles of the Internet.
Finally, remember that the customer is king. Then, what is what will keep them back to your site? Your site in the near future could Motley fan, because after taking the time to listen to their customers, and also go a step further to make changes to its site on the basis of their valuable suggestions.
